Most Auckland roofs that look finished are not. Fading, surface rust, moss and chalky paint are wear, not failure, and a proper restoration deals with all of it for a fraction of what a replacement costs.

Not every ageing roof needs replacing. If the roof is still structurally sound, restoration can often extend its life and dramatically improve its appearance.

Signs you need it

Iron Roofs

Your iron roof may be ready for restoration if you notice:

  • Faded, chalky or peeling paint
  • Surface rust, particularly around screws, laps or flashings
  • Loose, lifting or deteriorated fixings
  • Moss, mould or lichen growth
  • Minor rust spots or early corrosion
  • The roof looks tired or dated against the rest of the house
  • You are preparing to sell and want to improve the property's presentation

Restoring an iron roof before corrosion becomes advanced can help extend its serviceable life and delay the need for a full roof replacement.

  • Deteriorated ridge pointing
  • Loose ridge or hip tiles
  • Previous coatings beginning to fail

What's Involved

Concrete Roof Restoration

1. Edge Protection

Where required, edge protection is installed before work begins to ensure safe access around the roof.

‍

2. Moss & Mould Treatment

We treat the roof to kill moss, mould and lichen before cleaning. We’ll take care around gardens and plants, but ask that fish ponds are covered, windows are closed and washing is removed.

‍

3. Roof Cleaning & Tile Repairs

The roof is thoroughly water blasted to remove built-up dirt, moss and debris. Any visibly broken tiles are replaced as part of the preparation process.

‍

4. Property Rinse-down

Once the roof is cleaned, we wash down exterior walls, decks and surrounding areas to remove debris created during the cleaning process.

‍

5. Roof Repairs

Before painting, we complete any required repairs such as re-pointing, re-bedding and replacing damaged tiles.

Price guidance

Most Auckland roof restorations sit between $3000 - $25000.  The cost of a roof restoration depends on several factors, including the size and condition of the roof, its pitch or steepness, the amount of repair work required, access to the property, and whether scaffolding or edge protection is needed. Every roof is different, so we assess each property individually to provide an accurate quote.
