Service
Certified, compliant handling of asbestos roofing on homes and commercial buildings.
Asbestos roofing is common on New Zealand buildings from the 1950s through the 1980s. Left undisturbed it is usually stable. Damaged, drilled or weathered, it is a health risk and a legal obligation.
We handle both routes. Encapsulation seals the fibres in place with a protective coating system where the roof is otherwise sound. Full removal takes the sheeting off, disposes of it to regulation and replaces the roof. Either way the paperwork is done properly.
1. Initial Roof Assessment
We inspect the roof to assess the condition of the asbestos roofing, identify damaged or deteriorated areas, and confirm whether encapsulation is a suitable option.
2. Safety & Work Planning
Because asbestos-containing roofing requires special care, we prepare the appropriate work plan, access method and safety controls before any work begins. The aim is to complete the work without unnecessarily disturbing the asbestos material.
3. Site & Property Protection
The work area is prepared to protect the property, surrounding surfaces, gutters and drainage systems. Appropriate fall protection and asbestos-control measures are put in place.
4. Roof Preparation
The roof is carefully prepared using methods suitable for asbestos roofing. Loose contamination, moss, mould and surface build-up are treated or removed using controlled methods designed to minimise disturbance of the roof material.
5. Minor Repairs & Sealing
Where appropriate, minor cracks, laps, fixings and penetrations are sealed or repaired before coating. Any areas that are too badly damaged for encapsulation will be identified before work proceeds.
6. Encapsulation Coating System
A specialist coating system is applied over the asbestos roof to seal and encapsulate the existing surface. The coating creates a protective barrier that helps prevent further weathering and the release of asbestos fibres.
7. Additional Coats Applied
Further coats are applied in accordance with the selected coating manufacturer's specification to achieve the required coverage and protection.
8. Final Inspection
Once complete, the roof is inspected to ensure the coating system has been applied correctly and all nominated areas have been fully encapsulated.
9. Site Clean-Up & Handover
All work areas are cleaned down and any controlled waste generated during the work is handled appropriately. The completed roof is then handed back to the customer along with any applicable coating or workmanship information.
Encapsulation does not remove the asbestos roofing. It seals and protects the existing asbestos material in place. If the roof is significantly damaged, deteriorated or unsuitable for coating, full asbestos roof removal and replacement may be the more appropriate solution.
Most Auckland Asbestos Removals and Encapsulations sit at $5000 for decramastic asbestos roof and $5000+ commercial super 6 roofs. We give you a fixed price after the assessment, and that is the price you pay.
